You Done Messed Up, A-A-Ron!
Kirk Co. to Pittsburgh?
While appearing on the Pat McAfee Show today — which, as everyone knows, sets the gold standard for journalistic excellence — NFL insider Ian "Rap-Sheet" Rapoport revealed that if Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers don't get a deal done, Kirk Cousins is the most likely fallback option.
On one hand, Rodgers is still the best choice for the Steelers:
Super Bowl Champion
Veteran leadership
No need to trade for him
Should come relatively cheap
On the other hand...
Rodgers' reluctance to hammer out a deal should be a red flag in Yellow Towel Country.
(See what I did there?)
One of my biggest knocks on Aaron Rodgers — on my hugely successful YouTube Channel (seriously, I’m kind of a big deal) — has always been his commitment to his teams.
Leading up to his Packers trade:
Skipped offseason workouts
Reportedly ghosted the organization about his plans
Built a growing reputation for being difficult, even among former teammates
Despite all of that, Rodgers is one of the most talented quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen — and that can't be overlooked.
In fact, it might be part of why he’s so arrogant.
He misses workouts because he doesn’t think he needs them.
But what he is missing is the chemistry-building with his teammates.
Example:
During the 2024 season, Rodgers and Mike Williams missed on a critical play against the Bills — a mistake that absolutely cost the Jets the game.
That’s the kind of breakdown you fix during offseason workouts… if you show up.
So while Rodgers might be the simplest solution for Pittsburgh, they might be better off seriously considering Kirk Cousins.
Kirk Cousins is basically football’s version of a Golden Retriever — loyal, eager, impossible to hate.
(And that's a good thing.)
Cousins commits to his teams.
He’s the kind of guy who had a shelf built in his Minnesota home office specifically for a future Lombardi Trophy.
(It stayed empty... but you’ve got to admire the mindset.)
The problem?
Trading Kirk Cousins isn't exactly simple:
The Falcons would take a $12.5 million dead cap hit if they move him (Over the Cap).
His current contract counts $57.5 million against the cap in each of the next two seasons.
No way the Steelers take on that full number without Atlanta eating a huge chunk.
If I’m Pittsburgh, I'm not trading for your problem.
You’re gonna have to sweeten the deal.
