Yahoo Sports Deletes False Maxx Crosby Quote
Yahoo Sports posted a Maxx Crosby quote. Problem: It wasn't real (Sort of).
Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins were both held out of practice on Saturday for an incident that Raiders’ Head Coach Klint Kubiac said violated team expectations and business, according to The Athletic. The incident itself was an argument between Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins over whether Crosby was being too aggressive toward the quarterback in practice on Friday.
On Saturday, Yahoo Sports made a post quoting Crosby’s response to Kirk Cousins.
The quote is real. The context isn’t.
According to an article from Sac Town Sports in 2023, the quote actually occurred after a joint practice fight between Maxx Crosby and Rams’ running back Cam Akers.
I tracked down a video from a Raiders fan page on Facebook called The Raiders Silver and Black.
After discovering the true source of the quote (With the help of Grok), I asked Yahoo Sports if they had a response...
As it turns out, they did have a response...
Delete the post.
I don’t have a problem with a mistake being made. There’s so much misinformation out there, even once I knew where to find the original quote, I had to use tools on Google to help me filter past all of the fake reports.
What I have a problem with is Yahoo Sports irresponsibly spreading false information, and then thinking deleting the post fixes the problem. At the time that I took the screenshot, the post already had 13 thousand views and counting. By the way, I only took a screenshot because I had a feeling Yahoo Sports would pull something like this.
So now I’m calling on Yahoo Sports, once again, do you have a comment on your misquote/misrepresentation of Maxx Crosby’s response to the Kirk Cousins incident?
