Why No NFL Team Wants Bill Belichick—And How Pablo Torre Found Out
Pablo Torre is bringing integrity back to journalism, despite what Mark Cuban and all zero of his sources might say. Over just the past six months, Pablo Torre Finds Out has broken and spotlighted a series of eye-opening stories, including:
The University of North Carolina banning Bill Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, from team facilities
Former NFLPA Executive Director Lloyd Howell Jr. allegedly working with the NFL to conceal a ruling that implicated team owners in collusion
Howell again cooperating with the league to suppress a finding that former NFLPA President JC Tretter violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement by advising players to fake injuries during hold-ins
Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer reportedly finding ways to skirt the salary cap in order to pay Kawhi Leonard beyond his Super-Max contract limits
In his latest episode, Torre exposed current North Carolina Tar Heels General Manager Mike Lombardi for misrepresenting himself as the “strategist” that contributed to winning three Super Bowls. I’ll admit, this newest bombshell doesn’t have the luster of the other stories. They can’t all be 10s. Having said that, during the episode, Torre offhandedly dropped a diamond in the rough – the real reason Bill Belichick is un-hirable to NFL team owners.
“It reminds me of when I was asking NFL team executives why they wouldn’t hire Bill Belichick when he was fired from the Patriots.” Pablo Torre started. “And the answer was, they would not trust who Belichick would bring into the building with him.”
Once again, this conversation is in reference to Michael Lombardi, the “sandwich guy” who helped the 49ers win Super Bowl 19. You could understand teams like the Falcons or Cowboys not wanting to deal with Lombardi, who, according to Pablo Torre’s sources, is extremely difficult to work with and wasn’t very well liked in New England.
Belichick’s other controversial hirings of big personalities (A fancy way of saying assholes) include:
· Bill O’Brian as Offensive Coordinator, after he was fired by the Texans where he was allegedly difficult for ownership to work with
· Matt Patricia as Offensive Coordinator, despite his expertise being on defense
· Josh McDaniels as Offensive Coordinator, after he was fired by the Raiders where he lost the locker room
And let’s also not forget where Brian Flores, the disgraced former Dolphins Head Coach started his NFL coaching career. If you guessed the New England Patriots as a part of Bill Belichick’s staff, you get a cookie.
In case you forgot, reports surfaced last year that Flores was verbally abusive to players on the Dolphins while serving as their Head Coach. In his defense, several Vikings players have come to his defense since becoming the Defensive Coordinator in Minnesota.
On top of all of Belichick’s questionable hires, the Tar Heels are currently feeling the negative press surrounding his personal hire. Of course I’m speaking of Belichick’s manager/girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. Hudson has reportedly cost the Tar Heels two separate documentaries (From HBO and Hulu) due to her high demands, including creative control and producer credit.
Last year ESPN dropped a bombshell report, that read like a novel, accusing Patriots Owners Robert Kraft of tanking Belichick’s interview with the Falcons. Assuming both the ESPN report and Pablo Torre’s sources are accurate, one can surmise that a part of the way Kraft tanked Belichick’s interviews was by warning teams that his former Head Coach surrounded himself with hires that are difficult to work with.
NFL teams might be willing to deal with Belichick and his circus if there was reason to believe he could still win. With the Tar Heels now sitting at 2-5, with no reason to believe things will improve, there just isn’t a lot of upside in hiring Bill Belichick. It seems Belichick will remain 26 wins shy of Don Shula’s all time win record in the NFL.
