What if NFL Overtime rules didn’t suck?
Living on the west coast SUCKS for the early morning international games that kickoff at 6:30 am, Pacific Time. That’s how yesterday started for me. Living on the west coast is AWESOME for Sunday Night overtime games. Even with the Packers and Cowboys using every second of the overtime period in last night’s 40-40 tie, the game was still wrapped up around 9 pm. Having said that, just because our Week 4 football Sunday kicked off in Europe, doesn’t mean we need to adopt their pansy-ass philosophy of embracing a tie. Last I checked this was America. We don’t do ties!
Major League Baseball says F that S.
The National Hockey League says F that S.
The National Basketball Association says F that S.
Why is the NFL the one league (that we actually care about) that embraces the tie?
The simplest, most obvious solution would be to adopt the postseason overtime rules. In the NFL postseason if the score is still tied after the first overtime period, another overtime period begins. There has never been an NFL game to reach a third overtime period.
On the nearly impossible chance that a game does make it through two overtime periods, give them one more. Or adopt the college football overtime rules. Or a field goal competition.
I don’t know the exact solution that would make everyone happy. What I do know is that NOBODY likes ties in the NFL. F that S.
