The SHOCKING Aaron Rodgers Signing (Sarcasm)
In the most surprising move of the NFL offseason, Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers today. Absolutely nobody saw this coming. The media was stunned. Vegas was stunned. Heck, even the Madden dev team probably needs time to update the roster…
Ya know what? I’m not doing this.
Yes—Aaron Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. No—it’s not a surprise.
• He worked out with DK Metcalf this offseason.
• Art Rooney told people behind the scenes that Rodgers was basically a done deal.
• Every other team in the league already addressed quarterback. (The Browns over addressed quarterback.)
Now that it’s official, let’s talk about what it means.
Rodgers immediately upgrades a quarterback room that featured Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and sixth-round rookie Will Howard. That’s not exactly a murderer’s row of signal-callers.
Even with a washed Russell Wilson under center last year, the Steelers still managed to go 10-7. There’s no reason to think Rodgers can’t at least match that, even in a brutal AFC North division.
The cherry on top for Aaron? He’ll get his revenge tour this season—games against both the Jets and the Packers are on the schedule.
Bottom line: Rodgers takes the Steelers from “maybe they sneak into the playoffs” to “they could actually win a playoff game.” Still won’t get past the Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, Bengals, Texans or Broncos in the playoffs.
But good surprise signing, Pittsburgh.
