The End? Brandon Aiyuk’s last bridge burned
After the latest additions to the Brandon Aiyuk Instagram saga, there seems to be a final nail in the coffin to the rumors that the former wide receiver will be playing for the Washington Commanders this season. On July 4th, Aiyuk and Commanders’ Quarterback Jayden Daniels went back and forth on Instagram Stories.
“(Daniels) gonna text me telling me some ‘You on my team now. You follow my rules’” Aiyuk said in a video post. “Boy, I’m a grown ass man, boy. You gonna have to stop running behind your mama and I might believe what you talking about. But until then, (No).”
Daniels responded with an image of Kevin Durrant giving a thumbs down.
Aiyuk later posted a video with the caption “Let’s Run it (Daniels)! Let’s see! Need you available all szn and I’ll do the same!”
As of earlier today, Jayden Daniels no longer follows Brandon Aiyuk on Instagram.
The latest development makes it appear the Commanders would not pursue Aiyuk if he were to become available at some point this season. The only reason the Commanders were believed to be a legitimate destination in the first place was 1. Daniels and Aiyuk played together in college. 2. Aiyuk won’t stop making videos about his plans to play for the Commanders in 2026.
The reality is that Aiyuk is several logistical steps away from playing for anybody this season, let alone a new team. Aiyuk’s been out of the league since the 49ers placed him on the Reserve/Left Squad list in December of 2025. Being on that list means the 49ers can’t cut or trade Aiyuk until he is reinstated to the NFL. In order for that to happen, Aiyuk needs approval from Roger Goodell. In all likelihood, Roger Goodell won’t make that decision until Aiyuk clears his current warrant from Santa Clara County.
Earlier in the offseason I was asked by a wise man (my father) if I thought Aiyuk was going to play this year. My response was “I don’t know if he’ll ever play again!” And that was before I knew he was no longer in the league. Despite my best efforts to nudge Aiyuk in the right direction, I reached out to him over Instagram a couple of times, it seems I was right.
