Netflix Shines New Light on Commanders’ Stupidity with Jayden Daniels
Maybe Washington Football fans should hate the Seahawks, but really they should hate their hard-headed coaching staffs.
The newest season of Netflix’s “Quarterback” series is out. The 4th episode features a game between the Seahawks and the Commanders, which was Jayden Daniels first game back after missing multiple games due to various lower body injuries.
Game situation:
Seahawks 38, Commander 7
4th Quarter, 7:39
Nobody thinks the Commanders have a chance to win this game. The biggest comeback in NFL history happened in 2022 when the Vikings came back to beat the Colts. That was a 33 point deficit with an entire half to play, not a 31 point deficit with under 8 minutes to go.
“Hey, you ain’t gotta do anything spectacular.” Quarterback coach Travita Pritchard said to Daniels on the sideline. “We’re just gonna put a drive together. Throw the ball away [if you have to]. [Take the easy] Completion.”
“Did you think at all about sitting down?” Daniels was later asked.
“Hell no!” the Quarterback scoffed. “No. Not at all. I was always taught, man, finish what you start. We still gotta go out there and put our best foot forward even though we played like shit the whole game. Like, yeah the game might be out of reach, but finish the game.”
On that meaningless drive, Daniels was hit on a play, and dislocated his elbow. That injury essentially ended his season. He returned briefly for a Week 14 matchup against the Vikings, but was pulled in the second half and didn’t return for the remainder of the season.
I don’t expect players to pull themselves from games. They’re the ultimate competitors. They should want to be on the field for every play they possibly can. I expect Coaches to be the adults in the room that protect their players. Ultimately, Daniels inability to return in 2025 falls on Head Coach Dan Quinn.
Daniels is the franchise quarterback. There’s no meaningful reps for him on a “feel good” drive. Once the game is out of reach, pull the franchise quarterback. This isn’t pee-wee football or teeball where every second on the field offers a new lesson to kids. This is the NFL, where any one play can end your season. Dan Quinn is expected to know that instead of Mike Shanahaning this guy’s career.
