Mariners, I’m Not Letting You Hurt Me Again!
…Fine, I will.
You ever been in a toxic relationship?
The kind where the highs are euphoric, but the lows make you question all your life choices?
Yeah. I had a girlfriend like that once.
When it was good, it was perfect.
When it was bad, it was Hell.
Nobody else could make me feel so loved, so excited… and then so worthless.
That’s what it’s like being a Mariners fan.
Okay, I’m exaggerating. (Obviously.)
But here we are — a month into the season — and the Mariners are in first place in the AL West.
Normally, this early, I’d say, “Cool, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
But this year feels different.
In the past, Seattle’s pitching has carried them through low-scoring, one-run games.
That’s not the story this year.
Cal Raleigh leads the AL in Home Runs (10)
Jorge Polanco is 2nd in RBIs (25)
Randy Arozarena is tied for 3rd in Stolen Bases
As a team? 2nd in Home Runs, 3rd in RBIs, 1st in Stolen Bases, 4th in Runs Scored.
This isn’t your dad’s Mariners.
This isn’t even last season’s Mariners.
This team is hitting. This team is running. This team is scoring.
And the pitching? Still nasty.
Logan Gilbert: 8th in ERA across the AL (2.37)
Andrés Muñoz: Leads the league in Saves (11)
So no — I’m not saying “We’re winning the World Series” just yet.
I’ll wait like… a week or two before I start screaming that from the rooftop of T-Mobile Park.
