Carson Wentz Just Turned the Vikings Into Last Year’s Giants
The Vikings just signed Carson Wentz—which officially makes their 2026 quarterback room the poor man’s version of the 2025 Giants.
In 2025 the Giants:
-Signed Russell Wilson to a 1-year $10 Million Contract
-Signed Jameis Winston to a 2-Year $8 Million Contract
-Traded back into the 1st Round of the NFL Draft to select Jaxson Dart
Which worked out great…for everyone else in the NFC East.
What that left us was:
-A washed up, former Super Bowl Champion
-A quarterback who can look like an MVP on one drive and forget how football works on the next
-And a young, unproven rookie
This offseason, the Vikings said, “Let’s do the same thing—but worse.”
-Kyler Murray: A washed up Call of Duty warrior
-Carson Wentz: Basically a less entertaining Jameis Winston
-JJ McCarthy: A young, unproven 3rd year Rookie (He’s played in just 10 games over his first two seasons)
For every QB comp, between the two rooms, the Giants room was better.
-Russell Wilson > Kyler Murray
-Jameis Winston > Carson Wentz (At least Jameis is funny)
-Jaxson Dart > JJ McCarthy
That Giants quarterback room won four games and got their head coach fired midseason. So naturally, with a worse version of that setup…the Vikings should be looking at a strong two-win season.
At this point, the only logical explanation is that Kevin O’Connell is trying to get fired.
Jokes aside—the Giants already ran this experiment last year, and it failed. Last offseason the Giants quickly announced that Russell Wilson was going to be the Week 1 starter, despite the reports from camp that Jaxson Dart looked sharper. Then the preseason came around and it was clear that Jaxson Dart was the best quarterback on the roster - but the Giants rode with Russ anyways.
This offseason, the Vikings need to choose the best quarterback and forget about long-term implications. Go into the offseason with a full-on Quarterback Competition. If Kyler Murray wins the job, give him the job! If Carson Wentz wins the job, God help you, but give him the job! The most important thing is winning games, and if the Vikings win with Kyler or Carson, nobody cares that they blew a high draft pick on JJ McCarthy.
In Kyler (Meaning “in short”), just win!
